Will the cap and core ever separate or delaminate?

No, since the outer cap and inner core are made of the same material, they will expand and contract at the same rate.

What does the term "multi-chromatic" or "variegated" mean?

Multi-chromatic is a term used to describe the varied light and dark streaking on certain composite decking. By adding different colors at precise moments during the manufacturing process, we can create a more nuanced color palette on a single board – something you might also call multi-dimensional color.

RENEW Decking is designed to eliminate the need for staining, painting, or sanding. If applied, stain or paint will not penetrate the decking boards since RENEW Decking cannot absorb moisture.

How long do RENEW Products last?

All our brands have a 25-Year Worry Free Performance Limited Warranty and a 25-Year Fade & Stain Limited Warranty, but the products will last much longer than that. We still have installations standing strong that were built in 1976 in the upper Midwest. As anyone knows, the Midwest has four full seasons and the products go through the extremes of rigid cold, and the blistering heat of summer. How do I take care of my RENEW Products?

Zero maintenance is a myth, but our products are about as close to that goal as any outdoor product. Washing RENEW Products with a hose or a mop is about all that is needed under normal circumstances. You can use a mixture of bleach and water (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) to clean stubborn stains on the material. If you happen to have your deck in an area with many sap trees, you can also use a power washer on it as needed. We are one of the few deck materials that you can use a power washer on without causing damage.

Will RENEW Products used in a deck or dock application be slippery when wet?

HDPE material is actually less slippery when wet, than it is when it is dry. Our new Traction Master technology gives our decking products a unique texture that grips when wet or dry. Some customers have told us that their dog can stop when running down a wet dock rather than sliding right into the water.

Are RENEW Products impervious to insects?

Yes. Our material is solid and insects, termites, bees, and other small creatures, will not be able to bore into the material.

What do I need to know about building a RENEW deck or dock?

Virtually any deck, dock, or porch design can be built using RENEW Products. While RENEW Products are much like working with traditional wood materials, some simple construction modifications will eliminate any complications caused by expansion and contraction. An installation guide is available in the resources tab on www.renewdecking.com. It should be reviewed prior and during construction.

Can you use this product around a pool?

Unlike wood-plastic composite lumber which absorbs moisture, RENEW Decking is engineered to be 100% waterproof making it a great choice for a saltwater or chlorine pools.

Will RENEW Products expand or contract with heat changes?

Yes. Working with composite decking materials requires different design considerations. Please refer to our installation guidelines for a successful build.

What tools do I use when working with RENEW Products?

Standard woodworking tools can be used. You may have to use a lower speed with your router or planer/jointer to prevent “gumming up” of the router bit or the planer/jointer knives. Carbide tipped bits and blades are recommended. Always use tools according to manufacturer’s instructions and wear protective clothing and safety glasses for your safety.

What is the recommended joist spacing?

16” on center for both commercial and residential installations. For diagonal installations, use 12” on center spacing.

What lengths are RENEW Products available in?

RENEW Decking is available in 12’ and 16’ lengths for both square edge and groove and groove boards. RENEW Trim is available in 8’ lengths.
